The University of Parma (Italy), in collaboration with the University of Paris-Saclay (France), the University of Helsinki (Finland), and the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), offer their students the opportunity to participate in a mixed intensive program (BIP). The intensive mixed program is officially approved by the EU under ERASMUS 2021/2027. This year the course is in its second edition and is coordinated by the University of Parma, the university where the in-person part takes place.

Never before in this historical moment have human well-being and healthcare assumed centrality in the public interest. The development of new technologies and the possibility for small businesses to intercept desires in the clinical/therapeutic field require the adoption of dynamic teaching methodologies and sensitive to changes in the labor market. The overall objective of this project is to facilitate the transition from student life to active and professional life in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields. For this purpose, we intend to strengthen some skills such as the development of initiative, self-confidence and the fruitful application of all the knowledge acquired by students at a fundamental level (hard skills), transversal skills and also soft skills. To complete this project, participants will have to establish a connection between these different skills and intensify their presence by placing themselves in a situation of self-entrepreneurship, having to manage the creation of a business in contact with collaborators. Emulation and positive pressure are generated by the competition of the various teams that will be formed around a common project in the field of Health.

Program description:

Perception and imagination are two basic modes of our experience. The relations, interconnections, and differences between them have been the object of sustained philosophical reflection since antiquity and up to our present. While it is commonly accepted that perception has some sort of epistemic reliability and that it grants access to the world, philosophers, starting from the ancient sceptics and famously with Descartes, have questioned the extent of such reliability and in some cases have argued for the necessity to integrate or correct perception drawing on rational and imaginative capacities. As for the imagination, while it bears some undeniable resemblance with perceptual experience and in some cases imaginatio has been used to designate the full scope of sensory experience, it is unclear whether it has any epistemic import. The received view, which harks back to the empiricists, is that the imagination only reshuffles contents that were originally perceived, hence having no bearing on the increment of our knowledge. This view has been challenged by phenomenology, which considers the imagination vital sources for eidetic insights, and by contemporary analytic philosophy, which often relies on imaginative mental experiments to generate intuitions.

The goal of the summer school is to explore perception and imagination both historically and systematically in order to explore the following questions:

  1. Are perception and imagination structurally different?
  2. Does the imagination have an epistemic import?
  3. Does the power of imagining play a role in our perceptual experience?
  4. What is the role of concepts in both perceiving and imagining?
  5. What are the criteria to distinguish between veridical perception and hallucination or illusion?
  6. Are philosophical methods involving the imagination legitimate?
  7. What are the problems and prospects of the philosophy of perception and the imagination in the present?

Program description:

The University of Parma (Italy), in collaboration with the University of Angers (France), the University of Extremadura (Spain), and the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wroclaw (Poland), are offering their students the opportunity to participate in a mixed intensive program (BIP). The mixed intensive program is officially approved by the EU under ERASMUS+ 2021/2027 and is developed within the framework of EU GREEN. The course is in its third edition this year, still coordinated by the University of Parma, but this year the in-person part will be held at the University of Wroclaw.

The world population has hoped the figure of 8 billion people. There is an ever-increasing demand for an increase in food production for quantity and quality, but agribusiness and the processing industry have a strong impact on the environment. With this BIP we aim to make students aware of the problems that need to be addressed from different perspectives: environment, food production, management and law. The program will be divided into four sections: ecology, food science, economics and law. The ecology module supports students in understanding how to produce an inventory of pressures at the watershed scale, organized in a database and linked to a GIS, how to calculate soil system budgets and water pollution risk through real case studies and field visits, and how to counter this risk with nature-based solutions. The food module addresses issues of sustainable food production by integrating solutions for waste recovery, food production efficiency and sustainability, food security and food needs, while also considering environmental impacts. Key topics in the economics module will be the concept of transition in terms of the potential contribution of innovative policies, localized production and distribution approaches, new technologies and alternative food and consumption scenarios. The law module aims to familiarize participants with the holistic approach the European Union (EU) is taking toward food sustainability and regulation of novel foods.

The BIP was created with the idea of sharing competencies and skills present in the four participating universities and sharing them with students from four different regions of Europe so that they take home and possibly adapt what they will learn in Wroclaw to their own reality.

At the end of this BIP course, students, as well as faculty, will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge. In all four modules, students will be guided by faculty through a pathway from knowledge to action, where they will learn how to deal with the complexity of the above issues and the conflicts they often produce, enhancing education, outreach, and human, professional, and institutional efforts. In addition, they will actively participate in working groups, field workshops, practical exercises, and for the virtual part in online lectures and meetings.

As part of the EU GREEN University Alliance, the University of Parma offers students enrolled in one of the Alliance's universities the opportunity to participate in this Blended Intensive Programme, approved by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ 2021/2027 Program.

Program Description:An innovative course with a highly practical approach aimed at students and professionals in the field of cultural heritage and/or digital humanities to acquire introductory and specialized knowledge about digital humanities technologies, tools and techniques to analyze, understand, safeguard and enhance cultural heritage. Modern heritage studies (archaeology, history, cultural heritage management, museology, etc.) increasingly involve working with digital media. Research techniques, such as remote sensing, GIS, geophysical prospecting, physicochemical analysis of artifacts (archaeometry), combined with digital documentation applications and methods, such as 3D and 2D scanning, digital databases, big data, drone photography, etc., allow for a much more diverse way of documenting cultural heritage. On the other hand, heritage interpretation is enriched through simple and user-friendly digital tools, starting with digital photography, social media, and websites to more complex tools. apps, games, and interactive representations. Modern heritage specialists can choose from a wide range of tools, selecting those best suited to their goals or budget. The need for a more open, democratic and bottom-up approach to heritage understanding and interpretation has changed, perhaps forever, the way archaeologists, historians and museum specialists perceive their role and profession. Awarded 5 ECTS, the course will take the form of a summer on-site course in the World Heritage cities of Cáceres and Evora in the third week of June, preceded by 2 weeks of virtual classes.

As part of the EU GREEN University Alliance, the University of Parma offers students enrolled in one of the Alliance's universities the opportunity to participate in this Blended Intensive Program, approved by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ 2021/2027 Program.

Program Description:

Education for sustainability must consider connecting with "others" (human and nonhuman entities) in the natural-cultural world. Enabling students to embrace diverse ways of knowing, feeling, perceiving and connecting with "others" in the realm of multi-species communities in which we live is key to a sustainable future. Increasing pressures and human-induced changes on the natural world (our common home) make this an immediate priority. A sustainable future for all requires profound changes in our behaviors, which can be fostered and sustained through transformative learning. It is based on the acquisition of skills that recognize the complexity required by such a future, the commitment required to preserve some important sociocultural values, and the need for a proactive approach, as expressed in the GreenComp Framework. This BIP proposes the use of immersive and transformative experiences in the landscape and hardscape as centers of research and learning. Applying different research-based learning methods (both online and in-person), students will have the opportunity to work collaboratively across disciplines. Through theoretical backgrounds, immersive experiences, and analysis and discussion of real-world case studies drawn from a local context during a joint activity, participants will develop their perceptions of the need and capacity to embrace sustainability in their daily lives as global citizens, regardless of their different roles in society. This transnational and interdisciplinary BIP will promote creative and collaborative approaches that will inspire students to innovate their studies and research topics and create healthy and inspiring lifestyles and deep relationships with natural and socio-cultural ecosystems. In this way, it not only empowers students on a personal level, but also brings together a range of experts to develop exciting and innovative approaches to outdoor teaching and learning in direct connection with the social, cultural, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. The core concepts of this BIP include the centrality of a student's subjective experience (Dewey, 1938), the positive educational impact of immersive experiences in the environment (Denison and Oliver 2013), and the potential to co-create learning experiences that can be transformative. (Cook, 2019). Three moments define this BIP: (i) immersive in-person experiences involving different methods of inquiry; (ii) online lectures with basic theoretical concepts and practices related to sustainability skills education and research-based outdoor experiential learning; and (iii) an autonomous, individual or group transdisciplinary outdoor project (with online tutorial support) that contributes to the expected transformative process through discussion and evaluation. The BIP is intended for Master's and Doctoral students from different disciplinary areas, including Science, Humanities and Arts.

The program is designed for Master's or Doctoral level students who wish to develop these skills for application in research projects aligned with EU green research themes. This program prioritizes high-level strategic thinking in the design and analysis of modeling paradigms and how they can be applied for effective decision making. Interpersonal skills along with technical skills are central to the learning outcomes. Objectives: Develop familiarity with fundamental approaches to mathematical and computational modeling methods, techniques, and tools, including differential equations, machine learning/artificial intelligence, finite difference/element/volume method, cellular automata, and optimization algorithms. Develop awareness of what methods different types of research problems might be suitable along with the potential advantages, challenges and limitations of each approach. Develop skills in applying these methods to real-world multidisciplinary research problems aligned with EU green issues - Develop transferable student skills in teamwork and communication. Help create a culture of international and interdisciplinary collaboration in postgraduate research at EU green institutions. Postgraduate students will develop skills in translating large-scale real-world problems into a mathematical/computational framework and be familiar with fundamental tools in model analysis for problem solving, particularly in the context of sustainability. Students can come from any discipline but normally should have completed at least 5 ECTS related to Mathematics/Statistics at the undergraduate level. The program will focus on familiarity with different methods, their potential applications and limitations, and will enable students select specific topics for further study. The program will consist of 9 weekly 2-hour online sessions and a week-long in-person summer school at the University of Oradea. Teaching will be provided by several academic faculty from ATU, HiG, Oradea, Evora and Angers. The summer school will include hands-on workshops, student presentations and participation in a group project, as well as social/networking opportunities. Students will select an individual project related to their research area with support from academic staff. The project should typically include: a high-level review of modeling relevant to the student's research topic or some preliminary modeling work relevant to the student's research topic.

Partner Universities:

As part of the EU GREEN University Alliance, the University of Parma offers students enrolled in one of the Alliance universities the opportunity to participate in this Blended Intensive Programme, approved by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ 2021/2027 Program.

Program Description:

Micro-credentials as a relatively new teaching format have gained wide attention in the community of scientists and education professionals. They offer opportunities to broaden the participation of hard-to-reach target audiences and thus help increase the inclusiveness of educational delivery. Mastering the requirements of micro-credential design is therefore an essential skill for future educators. The proposed activity is aimed at students in education science courses and aims to familiarize them with the pedagogical and educational implications of micro-credential development. The module will focus on learning about sustainability from a content perspective. Students will learn how to integrate micro-credentials on learning sustainability into existing curricula and how to develop new curricula on sustainability using the pedagogical approach of micro-credentials. The activity also aims to promote international cooperation. It is therefore important to incorporate accreditation procedures in the development of micro-credentials to achieve compliance with the requirements of the Bologna Process. The module will therefore qualify students for a range of development tasks, ranging from the didactic and pedagogical aspects of educational design to its management dimensions (quality assurance, educational management). The outcome will be the ability to develop a global perspective toward the design of up-to-date teaching and learning processes, with particular emphasis on education for sustainable development. The proposed BIP will be accreditable to the existing curricula of the participating universities. All offer courses in the educational sciences and/or humanities. It will therefore be relevant primarily to graduate students (MA level) in teacher education programs and education science courses, but also to postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers and practitioners who oversee the design and implementation of educational offerings. THE learning format will be rather workshop mode than "ex-cathedra teaching": it will intentionally bring together scientists and senior professionals with novice students to engage them in shared learning experiences. Both perspectives, guided by professional knowledge or personal experiences, will enrich each other. Students will experience real tasks while designing educational offerings. Professionals and scientists will provide valuable input and evaluation. This type of co-creation aims to provide all participants with new learning experiences: learning by teaching, learning by designing, etc. As a tangible result, a set of EU Green micro-credentials will be developed that will be ready to be multiplied in all universities participating in the alliance to equip them with educational materials related to the topics for use in their educational offerings and third mission activities.

As part of the EU GREEN University Alliance, the University of Parma offers students enrolled in one of the Alliance's universities the opportunity to participate in this Blended Intensive Program, approved by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ 2021/2027 Program.

Program Description:

Anthropogenic and natural environmental changes, exacerbated by climate change, induce disturbances to ecosystem structure and functioning. Ecological restoration aims to recreate, initiate and accelerate ecosystem recovery after being altered by disturbances. Ecological restoration is a relevant science and a main practical tool in biodiversity conservation. The timeliness of ecological restoration is clearly framed in the Sustainable Development Goals and recent developments in the European Green Deal Nature Restoration Act, which urges EU member states to restore at least 30 percent of degraded habitats by 2030. Europe will require qualified, well-trained professionals with cutting-edge knowledge to address different restoration approaches. Sharing experiences is critical to help address uncertainty and find pathways to successful planning and implementation. To contribute to these challenges, the consortium of universities founded on the EU-Green Alliance is proposing a blended intensive program (BIP) "Ecological Restoration for Ecosystem Sustainability" as a mobility initiative aimed at preparing students to enhance their work on ecological restoration or to provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to engage in this topic . This BIP brings together the strong existing experience and expertise of the 6 universities. The proposed faculty members have a strong theoretical background and empirical experience in ecological restoration, gained through various management, conservation, and applied ecological restoration projects in different ecosystems and biological groups. This action has the uniqueness of combining expertise scattered across several European countries within a cooperative, integrated and consolidated BIP. The BIP is organized into 4 modules, interspersed with tasks designed to promote innovative learning approaches. Module 1 provides the basic principles and concepts of ecological restoration. It includes a practical assignment involving transnational online cooperation, in which each working group focuses on specific ecological attributes related to ecological restoration. Module 2 covers drivers of restoration, protected habitats, major threats to biodiversity and ecosystem integrity, legislation and funding. This includes student discussion to promote inquiry- and challenge-based learning focused on relevant threats in countries and experiences. Module 3 focuses on the main topics needed to develop and implement restoration projects. This will be based on the practical knowledge and experience of the lecturers. Students will prepare a restoration project in transnational working groups. Module 4 focuses on the presentation and discussion of ecosystem restoration case studies. This component is partly online and in-person and includes field visits to Portugal.

As part of the EU GREEN University Alliance, the University of Parma offers students enrolled in one of the Alliance universities the opportunity to participate in this Blended Intensive Programme, approved by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ 2021/2027 Program.

Program Description:

The main objective of this course is to contribute approaches, techniques and methods that support decision-making in management and economics. More specifically, students are expected to acquire basic and solid training in descriptive and inferential statistics, file and data processing, preliminary analysis and graphical representations, using appropriate software, to promote more comprehensive and coherent research in Management. More than presenting and exploring techniques and methods, the aim is for students to understand their usefulness and how they can provide answers to management and research questions. In this sense, from the earliest classes, students are encouraged to put theoretical knowledge into practice by defining concrete research problems and objectives, as well as selecting variables and methods that will enable them to answer the problem and achieve their goals. Through the project, learning method concepts and techniques are stimulated.
